Assist group provides medical assessments to the following categories as classified in the legislation:
Category One (CAT 1): Rail workers or contractors whom undertake a safety critical role where a sudden medical event or incapacity may result in a serious incident affecting public safety.
Category Two (CAT 2): Rail workers or contractors whom undertake a safety critical role where a sudden medical event or incapacity will not result in a serious incident affecting public safety.
Category Three (CAT 3): Rail wokers or contractors whom undertake a non-safety critical role where a sudden medical event or incapacity will not result in a serious incident affecting public safety. Note: This medical is required as a part of obtaining a Rail Industry Standard Induction (RISI) Card.
Could action or inaction on the part of the worker lead to a serious incident* affecting the public or the rail network?
Could sudden incapacity or collapse due to ill health lead to a serious incident* affecting the public or the rail network?
Is any aspect of their work conducted around the track?
Are all aspects of their work performed within a Controlled Environment^?
Is the worker at risk of exposure to moving rolling stock?
* Serious incident: For the purpose of this Standard, a serious incident means an accident or incident that affects the public or the rail network resulting in: death of a person; incapacitating injury to a person; a collision or derailment involving rolling stock that results in significant damage; or any other occurence that results in significant property damage.
^ Controlled environment: Means a rail workplace where a risk assessment has been performed to identify hazards and implement controls to ensure that any person working in or transiting the area is not placed at risk from moving rolling stock so far as is reasonably practicable.
