I’m an employer / self-employed. What kind of medical should I book?
If you're unsure about the specific medical examination required, you can provide us either a Job Task Analysis (JTA) or provide detailed job descriptions for your candidate / yourself. Our dedicated medical team will then analyze this information and offer recommendations on the necessary components to be included in the medical examination. This ensures that the medical assessments align closely with the job requirements and potential health risks associated with the respective roles.
I’m an employer and one of my staff got injured at work today, can I book a medical at your practice?
We understand the importance of prompt medical attention. However, our practice does not currently provide medical services or appointments for workplace injuries. It is crucial to seek immediate medical assistance at the appropriate healthcare facility or through emergency services. Ensure that your employee receives the necessary care promptly.
What do I need to do prior to my appointment?
You will receive a link to a pre-employment medical questionnaire to be completed, and potentially any other paperwork requested, as instructed at the time of booking. The clinician will go through your paperwork prior to commencing your pre-employment assessment.
If you have any relevant paperwork or prescription that you are currently taking, you can also bring these with you at the time of the appointment.
The link for the pre-employment medical questionnaire is not working. What do I do?
If you encounter issues with the links using your current browser or device, please attempt to access them through an alternative browser or device. If the problem persists, kindly reach out to our team at 02 9821 3612. Our medical concierge will assist you. In the event you are unable to complete medical history or paperwork online, rest assured. You can conveniently fill out the required forms on an iPad at the clinic on the day of your appointment.
What do I need to wear?
We recommend that you wear loose comfortable clothing that facilitate ease of movement (ideally trainers or joggers). The assessment will involve light to heavy physical activities such as moving and stepping.
Do I need to fast before my assessment?
Please call our medical concierge at 02 9821 3612 if fasting will be required for your specific appointment.
What if I want to cancel/reschedule my appointment. What do I do?
We understand that unforeseen circumstances may arise. Please be aware of our cancellation/reschedule policy, as it involves potential fees charged to the employer (our client). We recommend thoughtful consideration of your availability during the appointment setup process. If your circumstances change, kindly contact us promptly to discuss possible adjustments.
What is your Cancellation/Reschedule Policy?
Cancellation and Rescheduling is allowed. However, if done so in less than 24 hours of the scheduled appointment, a cancellation fee will be applied.
Will I have to pay for my assessment?
This is dependent on the employer’s commercial agreement with Assist Group. We will advise you accordingly at time of booking.
What is included in my medical and how long will it take?
The duration of the assessment may vary, ranging from 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the complexity of your medical needs. If your appointment requires multiple visits, this may take up half of your day. For a more precise information about your appointment, please contact us at 02 9821 3612.
How do I find the clinic I need to attend?
Upon confirmation of the appointment, an SMS will be sent to your provided number with the details of your appointment including the address. You can find more information about our locations on our website: https://www.assist-group.com.au/contact
Do I need to bring anything for my appointment?
To ensure a smooth Pre-Employment Medical assessment, please remember to bring the following four essential items:
Please bring the physical and original copy of your photo ID for identification purposes.
Provide information on any current medications or those taken in the last 14 days. Include details such as the name, dosage, and the last time you took each medication.
If you wear glasses, bring them with you. In the case of contact lenses, kindly remove them before the assessment and wear your glasses on the day. If removal is not possible, ensure you have saline solution and a container for lens removal at the appointment
If you have undergone surgery or any medical intervention in the last 6 months, bring any medical clearances related to the procedure.
What can I bring if I currently do not have an Australian Photo ID?
If you do not have an Australian Photo ID, we recommend bringing alternative forms of identification, such as a valid passport, driver's license from another country, government-issue identification, or any other official documentation that includes your name and a recognizable photo. Please contact our office in advance to discuss acceptable alternatives and ensure a smooth process during your visit. If you have any further questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to our team for assistance.
Do I have to bring my Medicare card?
Medicare card is not required during your appointment.
Please note that insurance payments are not accepted currently. If you are paying for your own medical, please call 02 9821 3612 Opt 3 for payment through our Accounts team.
Do I need to provide consent?
If you've been requested by an employer to undergo a medical assessment with Assist Group, we will request your consent to participate. In the course of the assessment, we will collect, store, use, and disclose specific health information to our client (the employer) for the explicit purpose of conducting your pre-employment health assessment. This process includes:
Please be aware that your participation in the assessment is voluntary. You have the option to discontinue the assessment at any time, although discontinuation may impact the outcome of your assessment.
It's important to note that Assist Group is obligated to retain copies of medical records and cannot delete any information collected during the process. We prioritize the privacy and confidentiality of your health information throughout this procedure.
What happens if I don’t give consent?
If consent is not granted, Assist Group will be unable to proceed with the assessment. In such a case, we will inform your employer that you have chosen not to consent to the assessment. Your agreement to participate is crucial for the completion of the assessment process.
I’ve completed the medical. Did I pass / get the job?
A medical assessment is not structured as a pass or fail evaluation. Following the assessment, our clinicians/consultants will assess the results and assign a 'risk rating,' which will be communicated to your prospective employer. It's important to note that even if certain risks are identified, many jobs can still be performed safely, or modifications can be implemented to ensure safety.
It's important to clarify that Assist Group does not participate in the decision-making process regarding your job placement. The ultimate decision rests with the employer, who will evaluate the information provided but is not obligated to follow any specific recommendation.
Who gets my results?
In accordance with current regulations in Australia, the prevailing practice is that the entity covering the cost of the medical assessment will be the recipient of the results.
In cases where you have independently organized and/or prepaid for your medical assessment, you would be entitled to receive the results directly.
Can I request for a copy of my results?
If you are self-employed or arranged your own medical assessment, the results will be sent to you directly.
However, if your employer organised the medical assessment, the results will be sent directly to them, and we cannot provide you with a copy.
Please note that you may be able to obtain the results by requesting them from your employer directly.
I have been asked to get Medical Clearance. What does this mean?
Sometimes during an appointment, unforeseen issues might arise which may prevent us from completing the assessment. For example, elevated blood pressure on the day could lead to the postponement of your function assessment and/or aerobic fitness test.
Other situations may also hinder the assessment process such as recent surgery or injury. In the event that the assessment cannot be completed, we may request you to obtain clearance from your GP before rescheduling the medical examination. If this applies to you, our clinician will provide you a letter and advise you of the next steps.
